True North Copper is embarking on a significant endeavor to revive the Great Australia mine (GAM), a historic copper mine in Queensland. The company, under the leadership of managing director Bevan Jones, is initiating an ambitious exploration program involving a 15-hole, 2900-meter drill operation aimed at unlocking the untapped mineral potential of the mine.
While GAM has a well-established history of copper reserves, True North’s innovative exploration approach is poised to redefine the mine’s future trajectory and establish it as a key player in Australia’s copper sector. In addition to the known deposits at Copperhead, Orphan Shear, and Paddock Lode South, True North’s exploration efforts are targeting new areas such as the Whip, Coppermine Creek, and Python deposits, identified through an induced polarisation (IP) survey.
These newly identified targets present promising opportunities for the discovery of substantial mineralization that could significantly expand GAM’s existing resource base. True North believes that the interconnected mineral system being uncovered through this exploration initiative has the potential to transform the scale and scope of the project.
Managing director Bevan Jones highlighted the historical significance of the Great Australia mine, originally discovered in 1867 by Ernest Henry, emphasizing the interconnected nature of the mineralized system comprising GAM, Taipan, Orphan Shear, and the newly identified targets. This holistic view of the project’s mineral potential underscores True North’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge exploration techniques to enhance its copper inventory not only at GAM but also at the Mt Oxide project, located nearby.
The upcoming drilling program, scheduled to commence in late March, will focus on testing the newly identified targets before shifting attention to the Mt Oxide project. By adopting a comprehensive exploration strategy and targeting multiple sites, True North aims to secure a sustainable pipeline of new resources and solidify its position in the Australian copper industry.
The revival of the Great Australia mine represents a strategic move that aligns with the broader trends in the mining sector, where companies are increasingly investing in exploration and innovation to uncover hidden mineral potential. True North’s proactive approach to revitalizing this historic copper mine underscores the company’s commitment to driving growth and unlocking value in Australia’s rich mineral landscape.
