A man has been apprehended in Wee Jasper concerning the purported theft of silver bullion worth a million dollars in 2021. Maclean John Fittler, aged 40, was taken into custody at a property in Wee Jasper and was subsequently denied bail during his court appearance at Goulburn Local Court. He faces charges related to larceny and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offense.
The incident revolves around the alleged disappearance of 960 kilograms of silver bullion from a consignment truck traveling from Maldon to Melbourne between late November 26 and early November 29, 2021. The 192 bars of silver bullion, each weighing 5 kilograms, were reported missing upon the truck’s arrival in Melbourne. The value of the consignment was estimated at over a million dollars in 2021, now exceeding $1.4 million.
Following an extensive investigation led by the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad under Strike Force Caimon, Mr. Fittler was arrested in Wee Jasper.
