A man has been apprehended in Wee Jasper in connection with an alleged silver bullion theft amounting to $1 million in 2021. The accused, Maclean John Fittler, faced charges of larceny and armed intent to commit an indictable offense at Goulburn Local Court and was denied bail.
The incident involved the disappearance of 960 kg of silver bullion, consisting of 192 bars weighing 5 kg each, from a consignment truck en route from Maldon to Melbourne between November 26 and November 29, 2021. The estimated worth of the stolen bullion was over $1 million at the time of the theft, and currently exceeds $1.4 million.
Following investigations by the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad under Strike Force Caimon, Mr. Fittler was arrested in Wee Jasper. Search warrants were executed at properties in Bargo and Tahmoor, where electronic devices and business records were seized for forensic examination. However, the silver bullion has not been recovered yet, prompting authorities to seek information for its retrieval.
