Alan Menken Debuts New Disney’s Hercules Song at London Palladium

Renowned composer Alan Menken recently delighted audiences at The London Palladium with his inaugural solo concert, “A Whole New World of Alan Menken.” The event offered a glimpse into Menken’s illustrious career, featuring personal stories and insights into his creative collaborations with esteemed lyricists. Among those mentioned were Howard Ashman, Stephen Schwartz, Glenn Slater, David Zippel, and Tim Rice.

In a captivating encore performance, Menken unveiled a sneak peek of a new song from the upcoming stage adaptation of Disney’s beloved classic, Hercules. Titled “Forget About It,” the song is a fresh addition to the musical, distinct from the original animated film released in 1997. The musical, set to premiere in London’s West End at Theatre Royal Drury Lane on June 6, 2025, follows the mythical journey of Hercules as he confronts challenges and faces off against the malevolent Hades.

Featuring Menken’s enchanting melodies and lyrics by David Zippel, the production boasts a new book by Robert Horn and Kwame Kwei-Armah. The show’s soundtrack includes familiar tunes such as “Go the Distance,” “Zero to Hero,” and “I Won’t Say (I’m In Love).” Director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw, known for his work on Disney’s Aladdin, leads the creative team, with Tanisha Scott serving as co-choreographer.

The stellar cast is headlined by Grammy nominee Luke Brady in the titular role of Hercules, supported by a talented ensemble including the Muses played by Candace Furbert, Sharlene Hector, Brianna Ogunbawo, Malinda Parris, and Robyn Rose-Li. Notable additions to the cast include Mae Ann Jorolan as Meg, Trevor Dion Nicholas as Phil, Stephen Carlile as Hades, Craig Gallivan as Bob, and Lee Zarrett as Charles.

The production features a top-notch creative team, with scenic and video design by Dane Laffrey, costume design by Gregg Barnes and Sky Switser, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, and sound design by Adam Fisher. Additional contributions come from George Reeve for video design, Jeremy Chernick for special effects, and David Chase for dance music arrangements. The music supervision and arrangements are overseen by Michael Kosarin, with orchestrations by Danny Troob and Joseph Joubert, and dance arrangements by David Chase. Natalie Gallacher handles casting for Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher Casting.
